PRAiGO Privacy Policy and Terms of Use

PRAiGO is a social app for joining and hosting small in-person hangouts ("Socials") near campuses. A hangout is called a Plan in the app. Parts of this page still call it a Social. They mean the same thing. This policy explains, in plain English, what information the app collects, why, where it lives, who can see it, and how to delete it.

What we collect

PRAiGO has no ads and does not sell your data to anyone, ever. We use cookie-free, anonymous Vercel Web Analytics on praigo.com to understand which pages and invite steps people use.

Only what the app needs to work:

  • Phone number: if you sign up or sign in with a phone number.
  • Email address: if you sign in with Google or Apple, if you verify a school (.edu) email, or if you have a legacy email account. New accounts cannot be created with email; email sign-in exists only for accounts made before that path was removed. When you confirm a school email, we keep it, mark the account as school-verified, and set your campus from the part of the address after the @, so verifying is also what fills in your campus.
  • University membership: when you confirm a school email, we keep which university it is for. If you send alumni proof instead, we also keep what you write, and a person at PRAiGO reads it. Confirming a university is what opens Ideas.
  • Profile details: your display name, a unique handle, an optional campus, your interests, and an optional profile photo you choose to upload.
  • Organisation affiliation, if your club asks for one: if you represent a student organisation and it asks us to mark you as a representative, we store that organisation's name on your profile and show it publicly, on your profile and on your PRAiGO card. You cannot set it yourself. A person at PRAiGO adds it after the organisation applies, and it says only what we checked: that you represent them. It is never a claim that the organisation endorses PRAiGO, and PRAiGO is not affiliated with any college or university.
  • Photos you post ("Moments"): pictures you upload to a Social's album, including the check-in photo.
  • Ideas: the line you write, up to 100 characters, with its category, the group size you pick, and the area you posted it from. We round that area to about 250 metres. It shows as "Near you" or as your campus. People nearby see your Idea without your name. They see how many people are interested, not who. A person at PRAiGO can see who posted it. When enough people are interested, the group can see each other's profiles.
  • Device location: used in seven ways, and only if you have granted location permission. You don't have to. If you say no, you can choose a campus instead, and the app shows what's around it. (1) When you open the nearby-Socials feed, to find and sort events near you. Those coordinates answer that one request and are not stored. (2) When you are hosting and tap "Use current location" while creating a Social, your current coordinates are saved as that Social's meeting spot, which other attendees can see. That is the point of the feature, and it only happens when you press that button. (3) To confirm you are actually at a Social when you check in. So that this costs no extra prompt and no extra battery, the app attaches the position your phone has already cached to the ordinary "still in the app" ping it sends while you use it. It never asks your phone for a fresh reading to do this, and if you have not granted location, nothing is sent at all.

    What that third use stores is one current position, overwritten every time. Not a trail, not a history. The previous one is gone the moment a newer one arrives. It is kept where no other user can ever read it, it is never shown to anyone, it is used only to answer "is this person at the Social they are checking in to", and it is deleted with your account. The app does not track your location in the background or when it is closed.

    (4) When you search for a place, so nearby places come first. Your position goes to Google with what you typed, for that one search, and isn't kept. If you haven't allowed location, the area or campus you picked is used instead.

    (5) When you post an Idea while the app is showing Ideas near you, so people nearby can find it. Your position is rounded to about 250 metres and saved as where the Idea is.

    (6) When you post a Plan with quick publish, the one-tap way to start a Plan, we save a meeting spot from your location, rounded to about a kilometre, and label it as approximate. Other people can see that spot, because it is how the Plan shows up in Discover. Quick publish needs your location. Without it, you can type a meeting spot in Add details instead.

    (7) The first time you sign in, so you start with one saved place. Your position is rounded to about 100 metres and saved as that place, which you can remove.
  • Places you save: if you save a place, like home or the library where you study, only you can see it, and the name you give it stays with you. When 3 or more people from one campus save the same place, a person at PRAiGO can see that place and how many people saved it, never who. They may check it's open to the public and add it to the meeting spots the app suggests. When we switch on walking times, we send the locations of your saved places and meeting spots to Google, which works out the walks, so your group can find spots everyone can reach. Google gets the locations only, with no name or account attached. We keep only the longest and the average walk to each spot, not each person's. The first time you sign in, the app can save roughly where you are as your first saved place. Your phone names it, and we round the point. You can remove it.
  • Times you're free: if you save when you're free, we keep the days and parts of the day you pick, and your phone's time zone. Only you can see them. We use them only to check whether a time suits you.
  • Activity in the app: your RSVPs and attendance at Plans, the messages you send, the Plans you say you're interested in, your answers to a group's polls and "still interested?" questions, the reports you file and the people you block, and a tally the app doesn't show, which counts your check-ins and the Plans you hosted that enough people came to.
  • Reputation: when you commit to a Plan, we record the commitment, whether you checked in, and the outcome. These add up to a Reputation number on your profile and your PRAiGO card. Other signed-in people can see that number. They can't see your history. A run of missed Plans can pause joining and posting for seven days. You stay in the Plans you're already in.
  • Notification token: if you turn notifications on, your phone hands the app a token so a message can be routed back to it. It identifies this app on this device and nothing else. It is not an advertising identifier, it cannot follow you between apps or across websites, and we neither sell it nor give it to anyone who would. We keep it first-party: we store it, we use it only to send the notifications described below, and it goes to Apple's and Google's delivery services only because they are what carries the message to your phone. Turn notifications off, or sign out, and it is deleted.
  • App usage: while the app is open, it sends a short ping about every 30 seconds. It carries an ID for that visit, the app version and your platform, plus the position described in (3) above if you've allowed location. We use the pings to count how many people use PRAiGO and how long they spend in it, and to find problems. We delete them after 90 days.
  • Website visit analytics: on praigo.com, Vercel records anonymous page views and route changes, the page and referring site, filtered query parameters, approximate country, device type, operating system, and browser. It does not use cookies or attach this traffic to your PRAiGO account. Its visitor hash resets daily and is not used to follow you across websites.
  • Website registration attribution: if you create an account from a Social invite on praigo.com, we save that the registration came from the web invite, the Social ID, and any standard UTM campaign labels present in the link. This lets us compare outreach with registrations. These labels are analytics hints, not proof of identity or a basis for access decisions.
  • Date of birth: the day you were born. We ask for it once, when you create your account.

That is the full list. We do not collect contacts, calendars, browsing history, advertising identifiers, or anything from other apps.

Why we collect it

Each item has one job:

  • Phone number / email: to sign you in and keep your account yours. The school email is used once to confirm you belong to a campus community.
  • Profile details: so other attendees know who they are meeting.
  • Moments photos: so people who were at a Social share its memories.
  • Location: to show you Socials near you instead of Socials in another city; to pin a Social's meeting spot when a host chooses "Use current location"; to confirm that someone checking in to a Social is actually there, so attendance means what it says; to show your Idea to people nearby; to put an approximate spot on a Plan you post with quick publish; to put nearby places first when you search for one; and to start you off with one saved place.
  • University membership: to open Ideas to people who belong to a campus community.
  • Ideas: so people nearby can find them, and so a group that's interested can agree a time and place.
  • Times you're free and places you save: so the app can suggest times and spots that suit you and the people you plan with.
  • RSVPs, attendance, messages: this is the product itself: who is coming, who came, and coordinating the meetup.
  • Reputation: so a Plan with a group has a group who turn up.
  • Notification token: to send the notifications you switched on: a host approved your request, a Social you joined changed, your group chat opened. They are about your own account and the Socials you host or joined. They are never marketing, and the app works fully with them turned off.
  • App usage: to count how many people use PRAiGO and to find bugs that only show up on some phones or versions.
  • Date of birth: to check you are old enough to use PRAiGO, and to keep a record that we checked. It is never shown to other users.

We do not use any of this for advertising. The one automatic judgement the app makes about you is Reputation, described above. If you think a pause is wrong, email us at customer-support@praigo.com.

Automatic check of what you post

We may check new Ideas and Plans, and changes to the words of a live Plan, with an AI model before they go live. When the check is on, we send the model the words of the Idea or Plan, its category, its place, and a Plan's start time. We don't send your name, account number, phone number, email address or photos.

If the model finds no problem, the post goes live straight away. If it finds a possible problem, or can't answer, a person at PRAiGO reads it first, and only you can see it while it waits. We keep the model's answer and any decision with the post. Today a person makes every decision to turn a post down. If that changes, we'll update this page first.

The model is Jev, made by TypeSafe AI. We reach it through Vercel's AI Gateway, which runs it on TypeSafe AI's servers. Every check asks for zero data retention: Vercel and TypeSafe AI delete the text once the check is done and don't use it to train AI models.

Where it lives

All data is stored in a Supabase-hosted PostgreSQL database and file storage, running on Amazon Web Services in the East US region. Photos live in Supabase Storage buckets in the same project.

Who sees what

Access is enforced in the database itself with row-level security (Postgres RLS), not just in the app, so the rules hold even if the app misbehaves. In short: nothing is visible to people who are not signed in. Your profile is visible to other signed-in users by default, and you can flip a private profile toggle that hides it and your avatar, your photos, and your place in event rosters from everyone but you. Each Moments photo is visible either to everyone in the app or only to people who attended that Social, depending on its visibility setting, and in both cases only while your profile is public (photo files are kept in a private bucket guarded by the same rules. There are no public photo URLs). Messages are visible only inside the Plan they belong to, or the Idea group they belong to. The times you're free, your saved places and your votes in a group poll are visible only to you and to the code that works out a time and place. Your Ideas show without your name. Your Reputation number is visible to other signed-in people, on your profile and your PRAiGO card.

Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account exists, because it is your profile, your history, and your photos. Three exceptions: school-email verification codes expire after 10 minutes, anything you delete (a photo, your account) is removed as described below rather than kept "just in case", and if you tell your group what you're wearing or carrying so they can spot you, we delete it when the Social ends. Usage pings are deleted after 90 days. We do not keep a log of your location. Four kinds of coordinates are stored and that is all: the meeting spots of Socials, kept as part of the event itself, the area an Idea was posted from, rounded to about 250 metres and kept as part of the Idea, the places you save, which are deleted with your account, and the single current position described above, which every new reading overwrites and which is deleted with your account.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account yourself, inside the app, with no email or support ticket:

When you confirm, the app:

  1. Deletes your photos: the database records and the actual image files in storage, along with your likes on other people's photos and the reports you filed about photos.
  2. Erases what only you could see: your date of birth, school email, saved places and times, Reputation record, notification token and current position. It also erases your notifications, the proof you gave for a university, your free times and votes in group polls, your "still interested" answers and the review record of your posts.
  3. Anonymises your profile: your name, handle, avatar, campus and interests are erased.
  4. Permanently locks the account: your phone number and email are removed from the sign-in record so it can never be signed into or recognised again.

One honest caveat: Plans you hosted are not deleted, because deleting them would also erase the attendance history of everyone who came. Those Plans remain, attributed to "Someone", with nothing identifying you. Ideas you posted that haven't become a Plan are called off, and your name comes off them, but their words stay.

What stays. A few records stay so other people's history still makes sense. They're tied to the anonymous profile, never to your name, phone number or email:

  • Messages you sent in a Plan's chat or an Idea group, or straight to a host or guest. They show as from "Someone" or a guest name.
  • Plans you're hosting or going to that haven't happened yet. They stay on the app, under "Someone".
  • Which Plans you went to and checked in to, and the tally that counts them.
  • Ideas you joined and then left, and any time or place you suggested in their polls.
  • Your Bonds, on the other person's side. They see a private profile where yours was.
  • Your blocks. People you blocked still can't see your direct messages, Plans or Ideas.
  • The record that you accepted our Terms, and any action our team took on your account.

Reports you made about people, Plans, Ideas or messages stay too, kept for safety, with nothing linking them to you. Reports and blocks other people made about you stay, because they protect those people. Notifications other people already got keep their words, so one sent before you left may still show the name you had then. Usage pings go after 90 days.

If the deletion can't finish, the app tells you so. Some of it, like your photos, may already be gone, so try again or email us to finish it. It never pretends a failed deletion succeeded.

Children

PRAiGO is built for college students and is intended for users 18 and older. We ask for your date of birth when you create an account, and we refuse accounts below 18. If we refuse one, we do not keep the date that was entered. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it.

Our team has two admin assistants, which we reach over WhatsApp. They help us review posts and reports, and see how the app is used.

Supabase, Twilio, Google, Apple, GoDaddy, Vercel and Cloudflare are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes. Anthropic and OpenAI say that by default they don't train their models on what we send them through their APIs.

When it's on, Cloudflare's check is invisible: it runs in the background when you sign in and you never see a puzzle or a checkbox. Cloudflare describes what it collects for this in the Turnstile Privacy Addendum.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the effective date at the top before the change takes effect.

Terms of Use

These terms are the agreement between you and PRAiGO. You accept them when you register. If you do not agree to them, do not use the app.

Who can use PRAiGO

You must be 18 or older to have an account. PRAiGO is built for college students, but you do not have to be enrolled anywhere to use it.

PRAiGO is not affiliated with any college or university

Socials happen near campuses, and campuses are named so you can find people close to you. That is all a campus name means here. PRAiGO is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or approved by any college or university, and nothing in the app should be read as a school endorsing PRAiGO, a Social, or a person. School names and marks belong to their owners.

Verifying a school email confirms one thing only: that you control that address. It is not a statement by your school about you.

Your account

Give accurate information about yourself, keep one account, and do not let someone else use it. You are responsible for what happens on your account. Do not impersonate anyone.

How to behave

PRAiGO puts strangers in the same room, so the rules are short and we enforce them. Do not:

  • harass, threaten, bully, or intimidate anyone, in a Social or in messages
  • post or send anything hateful, sexual, violent, or illegal
  • photograph someone who has asked you not to
  • use a Social to sell, recruit, scam, or spam
  • post a Social you do not intend to host, or a location you have no right to use
  • share anyone else's personal information, including a guest list, outside the app

Your content and Moments

Photos you take, captions you write, and messages you send stay yours. You give PRAiGO permission to store them and to show them to the people entitled to see them, the attendees of that Social, so the app can work. Nothing more. We do not use your photos to advertise, and we do not publish them anywhere else.

Only post a photo you have the right to post. If someone at a Social asks you to remove a photo of them, remove it.

New Ideas and Plans, and changes to the words of a live Plan, may be checked automatically before they go live, and a person at PRAiGO may read them. We may turn a post down.

Reporting and blocking

Every person, every Plan, every photo and every message can be reported from inside the app, and you can block any user. Blocking hides your Plans, Ideas and direct messages from each other, and takes you out of each other's upcoming Plans and Ideas. One of you may also be taken out of a group chat you share. In group chats you both stay in, you'll still see each other's messages. Blocking doesn't hide your profiles. Reports go to us, not to the person you reported.

Committing to a Plan

When you commit to a Plan, you're telling the group you'll be there. A run of missed Plans can pause joining and posting for seven days. You stay in the Plans you're already in.

What we can do

If you break these rules we may remove your content, cancel your Social, or suspend or delete your account. We will act faster and with less warning where someone's safety is involved.

Meeting people in person

This is the part that matters most. PRAiGO helps you find a hangout; it does not vet the people at it. We do not run background checks on anyone. Verification badges say an email or phone number was confirmed, nothing about a person's character or intentions.

Meet in public, tell someone where you are going, and leave any situation that feels wrong. You attend Socials at your own risk, and PRAiGO is not responsible for what other people do.

The app is provided as it is

We work to keep PRAiGO running and accurate, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we do not promise a Social will happen as posted. To the extent the law allows, PRAiGO is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app.

Ending it

You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, or by following these instructions. Deleting removes your content as described above. You may stop using PRAiGO whenever you like.
